How we handle your personal data

BrainFuel Ltd(referred to below as “we” or “us”) takes your privacy seriously and is committed to handling your information responsibly.

This policy — alongside our Terms of Use and any other documents it points to — explains how we treat any personal data you give us or that we gather while you use the site. Please take a moment to read it so you know where you stand. Continuing to browse the site counts as your acceptance of the practices set out here.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679, the data controller is BrainFuel Ltd, 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX.

WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We may collect and process the following types of data:

  • Information you share with us.You might give us details directly — by filling in a form, registering an account, placing an order, joining a livechat, entering a competition, completing a survey, or simply writing to us by phone or email. What you share can include your name, address, email, phone number, payment details, and anything else you choose to tell us about yourself.
  • Information collected automatically during your visit:
    • technical data such as your IP address, sign-in details, browser type and version, time zone, plug-ins, operating system, and device type;
    • session data such as the URLs you visit on the way in, through, and out of the site (with timestamps), products viewed or searched for, how long pages take to load, any errors you hit, how you interact with the page (scrolls, clicks, mouse-overs), how you leave it, and any number used to contact our support line.
  • Information from other sources.If you use another site or service we run, we may combine what we learn there with the data collected here (we will flag this when the data is first gathered). We also work with partners — business collaborators, delivery and payment subcontractors, ad networks, analytics providers, search providers, and credit reference agencies — and they may pass information about you to us.

COOKIES

We use cookies to tell visitors apart, to give you a smoother browsing experience, and to learn how the site can be improved. For a full breakdown of the cookies we set and why, take a look at our Cookie Policy.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

The data we hold about you is used in the following ways:

  • Data you have shared with us is used to:
    • deliver on any contract between you and us, and supply the information, products, or services you have asked for;
    • let you know about other goods and services that are similar to what you have already bought or enquired about;
    • share details — either from us or from approved third parties — about products or services that may interest you. Existing customers will only hear from us by email, and only about things similar to their earlier purchase or enquiry. New customers are only contacted electronically where they have opted in. If you would rather we did not use your data this way, tick the relevant box on any form that collects it;
    • tell you about changes to the services we provide;
    • make sure the site displays properly on whatever device you are using.
  • Data collected automatically about you is used to:
    • run the site and our internal operations — covering troubleshooting, analysis, testing, research, statistics, and surveys;
    • keep the site looking and feeling right on every device;
    • give you access to interactive features if and when you choose to use them;
    • protect the security of the site and the people using it;
    • measure how effective our advertising is, both for you and for others, and to deliver ads that are relevant;
    • put recommendations or suggestions in front of you and other users that we think will be helpful.
  • Data from other sources may be combined with everything above and used in the same ways, depending on what was shared with us.

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

Your personal data may be shared within our corporate group — meaning our subsidiaries, our ultimate parent company, and its subsidiaries, as defined in section 1159 of the UK Companies Act 2006.

It may also be shared with selected third parties, including:

  • Business partners, suppliers, and subcontractors, where doing so is needed to deliver a contract with you or with them.
  • Advertisers and ad networks that need data to serve relevant ads. We do not hand over information that identifies individual users; instead we might share aggregated numbers (for example, that 500 men under 30 clicked a given ad on a given day). Those aggregates can also help advertisers reach the audience they want — for instance women in SW1 — and we may draw on your personal data to display ads to that audience.
  • Analytics and search providers that help us improve and tune the site.

Personal data may also be disclosed to third parties:

  • If we sell or buy a business or assets, in which case the data may be passed on to the seller or buyer involved.
  • If BrainFuel— or substantially all of its assets — is acquired by a third party, the personal data we hold about customers will form part of what transfers across.
  • If we have to disclose your data to meet a legal obligation, to enforce our terms of use or conditions of supply and other agreements, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BrainFuel, our customers, or anyone else. That includes sharing information with other organisations for fraud prevention and credit-risk reasons.

WHERE YOUR DATA IS STORED

Data we collect may be sent to, and stored at, a location outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”). It might also be processed by people outside the EEA who work for us or for one of our suppliers — for example when they are fulfilling your order, handling payment, or running support services. By giving us your personal data you consent to this transfer, storage, or processing. BrainFuel will do everything reasonably possible to make sure your data is kept safe and treated in line with this policy.

Everything you give us is stored on secure servers, and any payment information passes through SSL encryption. If we have issued you a password — or you have chosen one — for restricted parts of the site, keeping it private is down to you. Please do not share it with anyone else.

Transmitting data over the internet can never be guaranteed completely safe. We do our best to shield your personal data, but we cannot promise the security of anything you send to us; anything you transmit is sent at your own risk. Once it reaches us, we apply strict procedures and security controls to keep unauthorised people out.

YOUR RIGHTS

You can tell us not to use your personal data for marketing. We will usually flag this up before we start collecting your data if that is how we intend to use it.

You can exercise this right by ticking the appropriate box on any form where we gather your data, or at any point afterwards by contacting us at info@brainfuel.it.com.

Our site sometimes contains links to and from our partner networks, advertisers, and affiliates. If you follow one, remember that those sites run their own privacy policies and we do not take responsibility or liability for them. Check those policies before sharing any personal data there.

ACCESSING YOUR INFORMATION

Under the relevant data protection legislation you have the right to see the information held about you. You can exercise that right in line with the Act.

UPDATES TO THIS POLICY

Any changes we make to this policy in future will be posted here and, when it makes sense, shared with you by email. Do check back from time to time so you are aware of anything new.
